Sights around the Town of Banff
Almost nature
Sulfur Mountain
We got into town just before lunch and after a great lunch at Chaya -
by far the best Japanese food I've had in a while - we wound up eating
there 3 times in the four days we were in town. Today wasn't
particularly ambitious so we decided to visit
Sulfur Mountain - a
Gondola ride to the top and some great views.
The perspective from the top is amazing. What you would normally
take hours of hiking can be had for a one time payment of just $21.50
(food not included).
Cave and Basin
Back
down in the
valley, we decided to go see some wildlife - where better than the City
of Banff for habituated animals?
Last
time I was out,
we found elk by Cave and Basin so we decided to go have a look.
No
luck. As a kid I remember visiting the caves so we went to check
it
out.
As a kid I remember trying to take pictures of squirrel's and now with
the
correct gear, I found it quite a bit easier.
Out at the Golf Course
I read somewhere that there are 470+ Elk that live in the Banff town
area. They are mostly passive (I've seen pictures of them walking
the sidewalks down town), but in the fall they have their rut and the
males get fussy and sometimes damage tourists. Being fall I was
somewhat curious to see Elk, but not get close. Turns out they
were hanging out at the golf course.
