Vancouver View With Christmas Lights
Most recent comment: Friday, March 11th, 2011 at 18:52:56
This is more blue - there is no light from the sky and there are lots of Christmas lights.

Hi I was wondering where did you take this photo from...i'm very much into cityscape photography, and i'm based in Langley - often coming down to Vancouver to capture these type of shots Cheers craig

Purple Peppers

Is this real?
Jimmy Riddle
Monday, December 27th, 2010 at 12:13:53

yes it is real. I just purchased 4 today as it happens. These particular purple bell peppers are grown in the shade, in large gardens often under trees or in smaller gardens mainly in the shade. They are considered mature bell peppers.

Lighthouses always have such unique character. The building on the left is now a small
museum.

Beautiful composition with pleasing Velvia tones. Thanks for sharing

Sea Otter Eating Crab
Species: Enhydra lutris (sea otter)

I think this photo is realy cute and you just want to hug this cute sea otter it is so cute. The one thing I do not like about it is that it is not eating the crab it is just holding it in his paws I guesS.

Broad Shot of Namu
Most recent comment: Thursday, March 10th, 2011 at 23:32:38

This is Namu from the Ocean.  The large buildings on the left are the remains of the fish processing
plant.  To the right is the hotel and then the entertainment build and bunk house.

The buildings to the right need a little explanation.
The hotel as someone correctly stated was never a hotel but a bunk house for the plant. There was another bunk house of equal size up the hill on the way to the lake which was closed when I lived in Namu in the late 50's and 60's. The entertainment building housed a 5 pin bowling alley ( I used to set pins as a kid in the early 60's) and a dance hall and movie theatre.
During the 60's I would be the DJ for the Saturday night dances and also the projectionist whenever we had a movie.
The building to the right was a mess hall and all the lunches and late night sandwiches for those working in the cannery would come from there.

The little building to the far right was the last building before you went over the "bridge of no return" and it was the jail.

on the other side of the bridge was the indian village and thn further along was the japanese village and last but not least the oil docks.

Blues And Purples Mixed
Most recent comment: Thursday, March 10th, 2011 at 23:25:36
I liked the small oval of grass - you could probably mow it in 10 minutes. Then you would have to get out the edge trimmer. Then fertilize. But it wouldn't be that unreasonable.

Western Sand Wasp
Most recent comment: Saturday, January 15th, 2011 at 11:41:11
Western Sand Wasp
Species: Erythronium montanum (White Avalanche-lily), Bembix americanus (Sand Wasp)

This is not only misidentified as a sand wasp, it is not even a wasp, or even a member of the Order Hymenoptera. It is a flower fly (Order Diptera). By recent estimates, the last common ancestor of flower flies and sand wasps lived about 350 million years ago.

Oigami Room

Hello! I absolutely adore every single one of these pictures! I'm an American girl who, for so long, has wanted to travel to Japan to find places of such Zen and history. I don't care much for the city life, I love the simple ways of living...with some luxuries that is. I was born and raised in a farm and ranching family/lifestyle, so city has never appealed to me at all. Thank you so very much for the wonderful pictures! With love, Holly S. -Pennsylvania, United States

Dan Fishing
Most recent comment: Saturday, January 15th, 2011 at 11:38:24

It was just about sunset and we went for a troll around Jenny Inlet.  Dan
has a cool "Floater" Jacket that also acts as a life preserver.  (He's had to use it.)

Hi contacting you from england. Found this website while looking for info on Ocean Falls for my mum. My mum and dad emigrated from England and lived in Ocean Falls from 1965/66 till late 67/68 (I think?) There names were Marie and Bill Turton. Does anyone remember them or remember Ocean Falls in the mid to late 60's? My dad worked at the paper mill and my mum was a nurse. Thank you for any help or photos. Regards, Jayne Cox

Cannery at Ocean Falls
Most recent comment: Wednesday, November 17th, 2010 at 22:04:17

This used to be the Cannery at Ocean Falls.

This was never a cannery! The photo is of the marine ways and townsite workshops

I lived in Ocean Falls from 1947 until I graduated high school in 1965. Over that time, the building identified as an old cannery was the company carpentry shops. Our family occupied a home across the street from these shops our last few years in the "Falls".
