Tempura
This is some of my favorite tempura ever - Lotus root you sometimes get in Canada, shitake mushroom is rarer, I've never seen peas (I have seen corn niblets here), a nice piece of eggplant and a pepper (which Mark will deny exists).

Potato With Wasabi Mayonnaise
This was at the Wasabi farm and I think this was the best food I had in the whole three weeks. I loved it.

Sorry it is blurry - tripod on a soft matt is not how you get sharp photos.

Helens Breakfast Sushi
I think Helen did a better job using here iPhone than I did with my monster.

Dessert Course
I remember once getting a fruit course that was just fruit. Now it has dairy and cake.

Take Away Mushrooms
You get toothpicks to pick up the large pieces of mushroom. Being fresh mushrooms, they were firm and warm.

Homemade Dinner
Finding a vegetarian protean in a grocery store in small town Japan is a bit of a trick. I made myself a pasta with broccoli because getting vegetables when you travel is always a bit tricky.

Dessert
The orange/yellow fruit is persimmons, the purple fruit are two partially pealed grapes. The fork is quite small.

Sashimi
The Sashimi was apparently excellent (I even had a piece of Tuna). The pink flesh is Tuna.

These are in Hippari Dako, a small yakitori and noodle shop close to the temples.

Pickels
Almost every nice meal we ate included some sort of pickels. Many establishment pride themselves on the variety of pickels offered.

Appetizers
This plate has a number of tiny, bite sized snacks. The the green colored dot is about pea sized. The nest with an almond in it was one of my favorites.

Dinner At Ryokan
Ryokan (Traditional Japanese style inns) have a distinct style of menu. This was one sitting when we arrived the first night in Kyoto.

Crab Rolls
The outside of the rolls is yuba - a tofu skin. They are served in vinager/pickle brine with cucumber.

Tempura Vegetables
The vegatables are mini corn, a section of egg plant, a piece of lotus root and a bit of green pepper. The ball is dichon (radish). This was served cold, but that might be because we arrived late.

Custard With Fish
The top part of the custard is what you expect, but the bottom is made of some sort of fish.
