Male Yellowthroat Singing
These birds tend to hide in the brush, slowly working their way to the top, and then they drop down. This individual seemed to spend a lot of time at the top of the bush. Tags: Iona Beach Regional Park
Species: Geothlypis trichas (Common Yellowthroat)

I thought I had seen Purple Finches before, but they always turned out to be house finches. This time I'm convinced. Tags: Iona Beach Regional Park

Purple Finch Male
I believe this is a purple finch, not a house finch. I believe that because the red goes most places (I have a bum picture), the prominent light band on the head and the crest. Tags: Iona Beach Regional Park

There is a more green and a more blue version sitting on this nest box. The colour doesn't indicate gender. Species: Tachycineta bicolor (Tree Swallow)

Swallow Inspecting Birdhouse
These birds didn't really seem to mind the birders close by - the bird was inspecting a nest box and spent quite a bit of time coming half into the hole. Species: Tachycineta bicolor (Tree Swallow)

Two Osprey And A Bald Eagle
We counted between four and six (probably six) Osprey in the pilings on the Vancouver side of the Fraser. From this picture, it's hard to believe you are looking at the city of Vancouver. John Harvey Photo > Blogs for 2019 to 2005 > April 2016 > Two Osprey And A Bald Eagle

Common Yellowthroat
This bird is a long way away - just spotting it was hard. If it was brown instead of bright yellow, I wouldn't have had a chance of seeing it. Tags: Iona Beach Regional Park

I believe this is an Immature Female Tree Swallow because of the dark back and dark beak. Immature males have a yellow beak apparently. Tags: Iona Beach Regional Park

Yellow Headed Blackbird
There were at least two in the marsh - you could hear one call and then the other. Not that closely related to the Red Winged Black bird - different family. Species: Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus (Yellow-headed blackbird)

Red Wing Blackbird Comparison
Red Wing Blackbirds were quite common in the Marsh - you could easily see two or three at any time. I thought it would be handy to have a photo of a Red Winged Blackbird in similar light, but it turns out they aren't closely related to Yellow Headed Blackbirds. Species: Agelaius phoeniceus (Red-winged Blackbird)
