Na Pali Coast

I think this is from Kalalau Lookout looking north. It would
be suicide to try hiking or climbing these - the soil is so soft.

Female Bird Wrasse

This was at Kahalu'u Beach - the fish seem very tame. This is a smaller fish and
didn't school.

Species: Gomphosus varius (birdfish, bird wrasse)

Sea Cucumber

The difference between slow film and a pro lens, verses a disposable camera can be quite striking.  The
color is what surprises me here.  The sea cucumbers were pretty common, and are really stuck
to the bottom.

Schooling Fish

Coming, going, you tell me - these fish (like me) were being dragged in the current and (unlike me) stopping
on each ebb to chew one whatever was on the rocks.

Sea Urchins

The difference between slow film and a pro lens, verses a disposable camera can be quite striking.  This
is shot in the tide pools around poipu beach.

Gecko
Not as pretty, but better than spiders!

Given that it was captured on the side of a house and the other Gecko's in Hawaii, this is probably a Common house gecko - Hemidactylus frenatus - an invasive species from Asia.

Gecko on Door Frame

The geckos like are generally out at night and quickly run up the walls to the ceiling
when approached. Getting a chance to photograph this one was quite nice.

Gecko Between Glass

The geckos were around each night - we had as many as three in the apartment.  This one
managed to squeeze between the two glass doors of the patio. Given the location (Kona side of the big Island) and the photo similarity, I believe this is a Gold Dust Day Gecko.

Chickens

In Smith's Paradise.  Some times you have to wonder who's stalking who - they
think you have food, and who knows how far they'll go to get it!

Chicken Cocks

In Smith's Paradise.  Their are chickens all over the island (I'd love to know
what stops chicken infestation from effecting other parts of the world), but the fed ones
in Smith's Paradise are in the best condition.

Light House

Lighthouses always have such unique character. The building on the left is now a small
museum.

Passing Lane

This was shot from shore using a tripod and a large lens.  The waves were great
so this was a lot of fun to shoot.

Wave Rider!

You go Mark! By this point I'd been dumped on the beach with shorts full of sand a few too many times. I was better being photographer.

Mark Body Boarding

This shot was inspired by a shot in Mexico . I was never sure I took that shot so I tried it again here. I was in the water without a boogie board and I would swim along with the wave as Mark started to take off.

Turtle Swimming
I was snorkeling in the channel at Pu'u O Honua O Honaunau (City of Refuge) and came accross some turtles. They didn't seem to care that I was there.
Species: Chelonia mydas (green sea turtle)
