Chickadee Checking Us Out
There were three or four of these in the tree. Sadly, the bird seed you get at the gate doesn't work for these birds - it's too hard.
Species: Poecile atricapillus (Black-capped Chickadee)

Belted_Kingfisher
This is a three image composite (in photoshop). I don't own a long lens so this is the best I can do.
Species: Megaceryle alcyon (Belted Kingfisher)

White Crowned Sparrow
It always makes me smile when one species mixes in with a bunch of birds of another species.

Sandhill Crane Lens Curve
It's rare that you can see the curvature on the front of a birds eye.
Species: Grus canadensis (Sandhill Crane)

Sandhill Crane Front
The little bumps on it's head are fun to look at.

Nara Carrying My Tripod
Claira is there too - she is hiding behind Mom. There are two ducks that were chasing here - it didn't help that she was leaking seed.

Hooded Merganser Pair On Log
It's always cute when you see a male and female pair like this together. The Male is the black and white bird.
Species: Lophodytes cucullatus (Hooded Merganser)

Northern Shoveler
I love the huge bill on these guys. You can see the small, comb-like structures on the edge that it uses for filtering food out of the water. I haven't seen that on bird before.
Species: Spatula clypeata (Northern Shoveler)

Black-crowned Night Heron
These birds weren't anywhere near the trails - this was the best view through the trees. The birds seemed to be sleeping most of the time we were there.
Species: Nycticorax nycticorax (Black-crowned Night Heron)

Chickadee On Thin Branch
There were a number of these birds jumping around a small set of trees between ponds.

Marsh Wren Through The Grass
I like the foreground elements here - they give you a sense of a "glimpse through the grass"

Marsh Wren
It was the call that drew me to this bird - he was close by and loud and other birds were replying to his call.
