The surface of Kilauea Iki Crater has been pushed up places and some of the cracks emit warm air or moisture.
From what I understand, offering are put on top and they fall through. Periodically, a guardian comes up and buries the offerings in the base.
The cove in front is where royalty would come visit. The large wall (pu'uhonua) seperates the royal compound.
Kahalu'u Beach is very popular with tourists, locals and sea turtles. I was quite surprised that the turtles seemed undisturbed
