Kids With Fin Whale I took a similar photo roughly 10 years earlier. The museum was much emptier then.

Nimpkish Burial Grounds

This is the Nimpkish Burial Grounds - east end looking west.  The closest  pole was build in th 1970's to honor Mungo Martin -
a chief in the Kwakiutl band and a great artist that carved many replicate poles that preserved native history and
helped revive the native culture after dark history of later 1800's, early 1900's.  The pole was carved by Henry Hunt and Tony Hunt -
and was the first pole raised in Alert Bay in 40 years.

-- from a book by Hilary Stewart called "Looking at Totem Poles"
