Skaga Island
This is one of those islands you aren't allowed to come on shore for. Apparently this is where the bodies of shaman were interred.

Columnar Basalt Cliffs
Apparently this whole area was once a giant volcano - hence all the columnar basalt. There is a road on the far side of those cliffs - I don't know how easy it is to hike in the area.

Layers Of Basalt And Confused Trees
I'm a big fan of the columnar basalt. What you notice after looking at this photo is that some of the trees are growing up and some are growing down.

End Of Gorge
You can see the volcanic columns that created this place. I love how sculpted the walls are.

Takachiho Falls
The falls are like a veil - softly joining the water. You could paddle pretty close without getting wet.

This place is amazing to me - too bad it is so far from access.

This place could have been the giant's Causeway (from the UK) except for it being really in the middle of nowhere.

Columnar Basalt
This gives you a hint of the geography that makes these falls. Apparently there is a substantial works program going on to stabilize the rock so that the falls don't continue eroding backward.
