Stone Lantern With Snow On Top
I call this a "Chicken Cordon Bleu" shot - take something cool and put in in the foreground (but not in the center) and then add something else cool and use it to fill the background. If you don't like the chicken, maybe you will like the ham. John Harvey Photo > Trips out of the Country > A Fourth Trip to Japan > Mt Koya > Stone Lantern With Snow On Top

Gate Breaking Down
Torri rarely fall to this level of disrepair. I really like the moss growing on top of the posts. The stones on top of the cross bar is a common theme in Japan - often you get a reward (luck, a child etc) if you can throw a rock and have it land on the cross bar. Often there are additional requirements - off hand, stand behind the line, etc. John Harvey Photo > Trips out of the Country > A Fourth Trip to Japan > Mt Koya > Gate Breaking Down

Sponsors Visible
Each Torii is sponsored. The Sponsors is written on one side of the Torri so the Torii are clean going in and the credits run on the way out. John Harvey Photo > Trips out of the Country > A Fourth Trip to Japan > Kyoto > Sponsors Visible

Helen And Mark Breaking In
The Torii were close enough together that you often couldn't get between the. This was a rare chance to put two heads in the scene. John Harvey Photo > Trips out of the Country > A Fourth Trip to Japan > Kyoto > Helen And Mark Breaking In

Buried Torii
The concrete pillars and long since broken plastic chains really detracted from this sight. It doesn't help that it's sandwiched between a school and some other building and really is blocking a useful path. Shrine And Tree In Pool
Many people, when entering the pool for the first time, went to the shrine, prayed and then clapped. John Harvey Photo > Trips out of the Country > A Third Trip to Japan > Sakurajima > Shrine And Tree In Pool

Floating Torii From Side
We didn't have the nice light to really make the torii stand out, but this is an angle I hadn't seen before so I guess I can call it mine. John Harvey Photo > Trips out of the Country > A Second Trip to Japan > Miyajima > Floating Torii From Side

Floating Arch O-torii
This is the famous floating arch of Miya-jima. it was mostly overcast the day we visited so the lighting doesn't add much, but it was still nice to see. Tags: torii
