Nara With Blue Whale Skeleton
The is the Great Blue Whale Skeleton hanging at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum. We visited to see a book reading for new kids book about the skeleton.
Deformed Objects
These two glass bottles and a sake glass were deformed (melted) by the heat of the explosion. We are encouraged to touch them - they are nicely melted.
Sadako's Paper Cranes
There was a large display discussing the life of Sadako - a young girl in Hiroshima who developed and died of cancer years after the blast. She believed that folding 1000 paper cranes would get her wish granted and the museum included some of the ones she folded. Because paper was scarce at the time, the cranes are made out of a variety of materials, and some are very small.
Blast Sphere Over City
This is at time t=0.00005 sec (or something like that) - it gives you a sense of just how close this bomb was when it exploded. The only buildings standing were made of concrete.
