Young Toad
I really though this was some cool frog. Turns out it's just a baby (or toadlet as the book says) Western Toad. These were quire common - even though we they are smaller than a dime, we saw them in three different places on the trail.

Green Frog Peaking From Algae
I think the gold flecks in their eyes are pretty cool.

Green Frog Half Submerged
At first I thought this was a bullfrog, but they were generally too small to be bullfrogs. The folds on their back helps distinguish them from bullfrogs.

Tadpole Lurking In The Shallows
I think you can see legs about half way down the body. It's hard for me to tell if this is a green frog or bull frog tadpole - I suspect it's a green frog because there are many green frogs in this pond in the summer, and the body to tail ratio is longer (likely Green Frog) and it doesn't have black spots (Bullfrogs have black spots).

Bullfrog In Hamilton Marsh
I was sad to see Bullfrogs in the Pond. This basically means everything else has been eaten.

Frog In Weed
Happy I can see a frog, sad it's an invasive eating machine.

Bullfrog Covered In Bugs
Only when you look at the detail do you see the hundreds of smaller bugs on the frog and leaves. I'm guessing they can't bite the frog or else the frog would have gone crazy by now.

Red Legged Frog
Those busy parks guys had just cut the area around the trail and all the cover this frog probably enjoyed was now gone. He was patient to my photography.

Asian Common Toad
Oh, saucy! This wasn't a large pond, but I'm sure it's big enough for this pair.

Green Frog Half Submerged
I think if this was a bullfrog that ridge wouldn't continue down the back, it would wrap around the Tympanum and then end.

This frog didn't do much - he did swim away when I tried to get closer.

Western Toad
This little guy had a pretty small home - a verticle drill hole. Eventually he will outgrow it.

Toad Side View
My good friend Bufo boreas. I was walking in the forest when I saw him and I called Steve over to catch him. Turns out this toad isn't scared of people - it is toxic to eat so he put up with being posed on a near by patch of moss.

Western Toad
I suspect this is a young animal - the white line on the back is just starting to form. This guy was small - a little larger than a toonie. I have seen them even younger - roughly the size of a dime.
