Harrier In Golf Course Rough
That owl like face is really clear in this photo.
Species: Circus cyaneus (Northern Harrier)

Harrier On Fence Post
This bird (a Juvenile Harrier) wound up very close to the foot path - people were walking by with the dogs and noisy children so it didn't take long before the bird moved on.
Species: Circus cyaneus (Northern Harrier)

Short Eared Owl On Power Cable
These owls have really distinct yellow eyes - and they hunt in the day.

Great Blue Heron In The Frost
These are farm fields - for some reason, there are a lot of rodents out there.

This looks like a Juvenile - strong two tone orange and dark beak, and very little stripe on the top of the head.

Species: Ardea herodias (Great Blue Heron)

John Harvey Photo > Blogs for 2022 to 2005 > January 2013 > Great Blue Heron In The Frost

Song Sparrow On Snag
I like the lichen on the snag more than the bird - I'm hoping the sum is greater than the parts.
Species: Melospiza melodia (Song Sparrow)

American Robin Eating Hawthorn
Sad - American Robin is a "lifer". Of course I have seen this bird a billion times - I just haven't bothered to take a photo. Now that I look - really look - at the bird, there are lots of interesting features. This is the first time I have seen this camera display Moiré.
Species: Turdus migratorius (American Robin)

Spotted Towhee Eating Worms
That red eye really stands out.
Species: Pipilo maculatus (Spotted Towhee)

Golden Eagle
Obviously not an inspiring photo - I'm just putting a bird on a life list. My bad. Given what I see of the tail, this looks like a juvenile, but there isn't enough to tell.
Species: Aquila chrysaetos (Golden Eagle)

Common Yellowthroat
This little guy had a really nice song and was flying along the length of the ditch. He (this is a male) mostly hid in the brambles but did sometimes come out.

I used to think that all small birds were "little brown jobbies". Not so much anymore.

Species: Geothlypis trichas (Common Yellowthroat)
