Frosty Drummonds Cinquefoil
Love it when the species is actually a "species complex". Thistle is another example - many look similar and might be hybrids. Tags: Mount Washington
Species: Potentilla drummondii (Drummond's cinquefoil)

Jeffreys Shootingstar
I have a soft spot for Shootingstar - I smile when I see them growing. Tags: Mount Washington

Juvenile Golden-Crowned Kinglet
The Juvenile's do look quite different from the mature examples. This bird was gleening as part of a larger flock. By the time I got my camera on a tripod, the flock had mostly moved on. I have another photo with a better view of the wing bars. Tags: Mount Washington
Species: Regulus satrapa (Golden-crowned Kinglet)

Lake With Ski Runs In Background
These shallow lakes actually had fish in them, but I'm sure they were a source for many of the mosquitoes up there. John Harvey Photo > A Weekend in Comox > Lake With Ski Runs In Background

Canadian Dogwood
Or Cornus canadensis to closer friends. The white parts (pedals to those not in the know) are actually bracts modified leaves. The flowers are the tiny green things in the very center that I didn't get close enough to see. Species: Cornus canadensis (Canadian Dogwood, Canadian bunchberry)

Trail Half Covered In Snow
I suspect that the trail has a gap in the canopy over it which is why there is more snow on the ground on the trail than other places. John Harvey Photo > A Weekend in Comox > Trail Half Covered In Snow

Marsh Marigolds In Grasses
I believe this is Marsh Marigold - Caltha biflora. This plant seems to love the water - I only found it in very boggy bits where snow pack or a small stream kept the ground saturated. Species: Caltha leptosepala (White Marsh Marigold)

Marigold In Moss
It amazes me that this same species can be found in so many different places - how could this plant get from one mountain to another, let alone from the mainland to Vancouver Island. Species: Caltha leptosepala (White Marsh Marigold)
