Processions Starting Up

These processions have already come from the city center.  They hold up here for a few minuets () and
then
the castle.

Overhead View of the Precession

You get a sense of how many people are involved with these things.  Beyond the heavy lifters,
you have coaches that make sure they are going in the right direction, and someone
encouraging standing at the front of the shrine.

Once they get to the castle, they and have welcome
the cherry blossoms.

Mounted Horseman
I was impressed with the quality of the gear on the horses, as well as the detail that went into the armor.

Foot Soldiers
These soldiers had long pike like poles.

Bureaucrat
I believe this is the lead of the patriots in the Meiji Restoration.

Pulling Torch
A group of 3 to 10 people would carry these lit torches down. The torches were obviously heavy and there was little protection from the fire.

Parade Walking Past Torches
After the torches were set up, a parade came by with hand held torches and walked up to the city square.

Geishas On Stage
This stage was pushed the whole length of the parade. There were three shaparones walking behind.

The woman in orange represents Lady Shizuka (1180) Shizuka-Gozen, a Kyoto dancer, was the beloved of Minamoto-Yoshitsune.

Human Archery Target
Back in the day (Kamakura Period 1192-1333AD), apparently the Yabusame Archers had humans hold the targets. Notice there is only one level - good enough, not the bulls eye we see.

Little Bird
Some of the children were dressed as little birds and little butterflies. At this point they had walked a few km so I'm sure they were tired. (Zen-retsu)

Soldier Walking
He has stone in his armor and the two swords you would expect from a Samurai. I was impressed with the quality that went into the costumes.
