Looking At Product
I like the stone floor (which is washed clean) and the windows in the ceiling.

Inspecting Tail Meat
The tails have the cuts in them so that the buyers can inspect the quality of the meat. Each carries a flashlight so they can clearly see.

In Japanese cultural you want to get the smoke (breath of the gods) on you for good luck.

Entrance To Fish Market
This is the entrance to the larger fish market. You can see the carts that run through the market bringing boxes of fish out to the larger street trucks.

Ascidians - Halocynthia roretzi
The internet has come through - apparently they are ascidians - specifically Halocynthia roretzi. Ascidians are sea squirts — hermaphrodite marine invertebrates that live in shallow ocean waters, and which are thought to exhibit characteristics of the evolutionary ancestors of chordates and vertebrates. (Thanks goes to Karen Sanamyan at ascidiacea.com/
Species: Halocynthia roretzi (Maboya in Japanese)

Dried Fish
This stall sold mostly dried things. I have no idea what type of fish this is.

Knives
I like the pattern of light on these knives. They weren't cheap - I believe they were intended for people working in the market and the restauraunts that shop there.

Octopus Balled Up
This is going to become sushi in some restaurant. Perhaps a little Takoyaki? See an example in a Kyoto Market

Row In Fish Market
I love the cobblestone floor in here - I think it shows how old the building is.

Carving Up Tuna
You can see the body is fully of ice - I'm not sure if that means this is fresh fish or frozen, but if it was frozen they would probably be using the band saw.

Pieces Of Tuna In Freezer
I think these pieces of fish are of saleable size for restaurants.

Snails
I'm not sure why the shells on these snails are so broken. I'm not sure if these are salt water or fresh or how it's eaten.
