The brothers creek walk is one of the best collections of these
huge stumps I've seen around Vancouver.  All the new trees
are about the same age so the ground underneath is pretty much a waste land.

I wonder what force caused this tree to be so twisted during it's development.

I'd love to see the new trees grow to the old size.

First the tree gets chopped down, then a forest fire burns the remains.  The area was logged
in the 1870s and then forest fires swept through in 1910 and 1916.  Tough life.

You can see how much larger the old growth trees are
compared to the new generation of trees.  I understand why thinning is necessary.

I wonder if this tree grew at an angle throught it's life.

This cave was formed by the tree roots pulling back from the ground.

Sorry about the exposure - missed it.  The stump is massive and looks like a great
playground for kids.
