Normally, there is no way I would use this picture - I generally don't like flawed image capture and the I doubt I could come up with a worse case of flare (the waterproof case had water on the front of it). That said, it gives you a pretty good sense of just how nice it was out there to paddle.

Personally, I like the flare. I've take a few pictures where I was hoping to caputre the glare in the camera. As you have stated, it emphasizes the feeling of the moment or time of day. In my favorite picture, the sun is a bit lower and reflects out over a lake. Everytime I look at it, it reminds me of that warm late after noon.
