Nice to have daylight!
Pancake Night
Who doesn't love pancake night? The
kids love it, probably because of the maple syrup. Claira
hasn't yet mastered the knife and fork so after a meal of
blueberry pancakes with syrup usually needs a head to toe
cleaning.
Riding in the Lower Seymour Conservation Area
Nara and I often go riding around the sea
wall close to our house. My bike happened to be in the shop
(worn out brakes) so I needed to go somewhere where Nara couldn't
go that fast and the crowds weren't that bad. How about the
Lower Seymour Conservation Area? My original thought was to
do the paved road but the gravel road seemed like a better idea
because it kept the speed down.
Nara liked the ride down to the twin
bridges. The walk back up wasn't so good. I forgot our
jackets so Nara complained about the cold. After some
walking she wanted a pick up. Some of the mountain bikers
were smiling when they saw me with Nara on my shoulders carrying
her bike up the hill. I was going to stop for ice cream on
the way home but Nara fell asleep in her car seat so I just drove
home. Next time.
Reifel Bird Sanctuary
I really enjoy the Reifel Bird Sanctuary -
it's full of birds but it's really family friendly. Unlike
other bird locations they encourage feeding the ducks so the kids
have a good time. Their are long walks that funny ducks that
follow you around. While there seems to be an endless supply
of Mallards, there are also rarer birds to see.
This place is primarily for ducks.
There are huge shallow ponds for ducks to filter feed, never mind
the endless supply of bird food thrown at the animals. I
sometimes think of the circle of life - birds fed so much seed
fill the ponds with poop which causes an explosion of life that
other things can eat.
The chickadee's at Reifel are some of the
most tame you can find - if you stick your hand out they will come
to investigate. They don't have much patience - a few
seconds later they are on with their life, but you do get a nice
visit if you have something they can eat.
As we were walking to the car we found some seed spread on a fence
and dozen or so Red Winged Black birds eating. Usually these
birds are a bit more reserved - the won't get that close to humans
but I was surprised to see this flock was quite tame - getting
close didn't seem to bother them.
Speaking of birds that don't like people close by - The resident
black capped Night Heron's are always a little reclusive but have
become a fixture near the entrance. I've only seen these
birds sleeping near the entrance - never active.
Happy Birthday to Me!
My wife kindly organized Birthday lunch for
me at Maurya. Thanks to everyone who attended! This is
the first event in a long time to have some many kids present - it
was fun to see them all together.
Haircuts
For some reason, I really like taking photos of my kids getting hair
cuts. It's a rare situation where they get a chocolate snack
(pocky) and with the wet hair, it's fun.
Swimming
Both kids are in
swimming on Monday nights. We just recently got them booked
into the same time slot so it only takes one trip to the pool.
Nara is in a group class (4 kids, one teacher) but Claira is still
in a Parent and Tot class (6 kids, 6 parents and 1 teacher).
Claira really likes the water.
