I built an underwater camera encosure so now I'm trying to use
it. After Ogden point in Victoria, I tried the dock near the
Maritime Museum. The public is allowed on this dock so I
just dropped my camera in. The camera I have is a "day
night" camera which means it doesn't have a UV filter which means
that plants show up a white, creamy or pink colour. When I
drop the camera the water looks very cloudy.
The bottom here is sandy and shells.
Wanting something a little different, I tried Stanley Park.
I threw the camea in near Siwash rock and disaster struck.
There was a rock just under the ocean and it cracked cap and
started a slow leak. You can see water on the lens - that is
from water that splashed inside.
The feeling of pulling up your camera and
finding water inside is terrible. In the tube, I have lead
weights at the bottom, a battery pack in the middle and the
computer at the top. Thanksfully, it appears that only the
lead got soaked and everything else was fine.
Because the enclosure is made out of off the regular plumbing
supplies I was able replace the lid and get back in the
action.
