A cool and wet spring
It's been a cool and wet spring so it was
nice to get out when it wasn't raining. Nara was working on
homework so Claira and I went for a walk around Camosun bug.
The bog plants are always fun to look
at. The Labrador tea was in full bloom and the Blueberries
were starting to ripen up. My favorite plant here is the
sundews so we laid down on the boardwalk and took a good look at a
Short walk in a near by park, but still a good time!
Iona Beach Regional Park
Another nice day - we went out for a walk at
Iona. The damself flies were out in force with sometimes
more than a dozen landed on a bush or hand rail, all flying and
landing as you walked by.
It's late for the spring migration so most of the birds are the
year round residents. We took a walk around the pond looking
for birds close by that didn't just fly away.
Hummingbirds are often good to take photos of because they generally
don't care too much about people and they are often distracted
fighting with other birds. We happened to get a male Rufus on
a branch quite close to us.
Birds too difficult? Try flowers! These Brown Eyed
Susans were in good shape so we took some time to take some photos.
Happy Birthday Claira!
Claira wanted to have her birthday at the
Stanley Park train so that is where we booked it. Birthday
packages are easier - you get a small shelter with tables, a
package of tickets and free parking for the hosts and two more
The kids arrived and then immediately took off
for their first train ride. Even though they see each other
every day at school, there is always something new to chat about.
After the ride, went to the shelter for a picnic style lunch and
cake. Kids at this age can be picky, but between grilled
cheese sandwiches and hotdogs I think everyone was happy.
The kids then got a second ride around on the train. They
picked a different car to take in the sights.
And that was two hours! We had a family birthday on Claira's
