A season to visit family

The days are short in Winter so most
events happen at night. We saw there were lights on at
Fishermans Wharf downtown. We got there and the place was
open but almost completely empty. It was a beautiful night
so we walked down the wharfs and took in the lights.

On the way back home we stopped in at City Hall and stopped for
their lights as well. This plaza was also quiet but all the
lights were on and it was fun to run around.

Merry Christmas
I find Christmas morning hard to photograph
- I try to focus on the expressions and I don't really want to
focus on the stuff. The kids have charm bracelets and this
year they both got charms to add to their bracelets.

After gifts we went for a walk to Outerbridge park. We
weren't alone - there were lots of other people out on Christmas
morning for a walk.

Happy Birthday!
My dad's birthday happens to be Chrismas day
so we do try to do something separate from Christmas for
him.

Up Island for Christmas Party.

My Aunt and Uncle kindly host a boxing day
event at their home. We gathered at their home (with a new
Kitchen!) and waited for everyone to arrive.
My Aunt had hosted a company Christmas party this year in her
greenhouse and it was still decorated from the event. We
walked over and the space was amazing!

Dinner was prepared in the main house and
walked over to the greenhouse. The kids were given the first
plates and they knew enough to take vegetables.
We spent the evening on the couches chatting with family and
opening gifts.
Thanks Jennifer and David for a great night!
Birding Walk in Comox
The kids wanted a sleep in and me in a hotel
room for a few hours leads to me going stir crazy. It's not
a migration season, but I thought it would be good to go out and
see if I could spot some birds. I quite like the beaches in
Comox and I did find some birds really close to shore.

Neck Point Park

On the way home from Comox, we stopped at
Neck Point Park in Nanaimo. Nanaimo has some great parks and
I've always spent my time in Nanaimo waiting for a ferry.
With reservations, it now makes more sense to stop at park for a
walk and then arrive at the terminal with time to spare.
It was crushingly cold. If we were adequately prepared, we
would all have gloves and toques.

There are multiple sets of trail in this park including a trail that
is exposed and has rocky sections. Claira would love to spend
a few hours climbing rocks, but we didn't have time for that.

When we came around the corner to the open Georgia Straight, the
cold got worse. On a nice day, this would be beautiful, but
with the cold we didn't dwell for long
We decided to take the inland trails to get back to the parking lot
and warm up a lot.
