The book says this tube was active in the 1790's.  This is the end of the 300 foot walk.

The lava tube was found in 1913 by Lorrin Thurston.

The change from the tropical outside to the nearly dead inside is rather stark.
The park has set up had rails and lights to ensure there is no risk to visitors.
