September 2024
And some clever quip...
VanDusen Garden
I have a
seasons pass for VanDusen and I really didn't use it enough this
year. I had a few hours open so I went by to try and take some
macro shots. Unfortunately, I forgot one of the parts I needed
for my tripod so I was restricted to handheld only. It's the
end of the season so there are still flower, but some are looking
rather sad.
I
have a 105mm Macro which I really like to use. That said, it
often has very thin depth of field which can make photos quite
frustrating. Photoshop has a compositing pipeline where you
stack a bunch of image and use that to get good depth of
field. I thought I would actually try taking some photos of
flowers and see if I could stack them up.
In September there isn't a lot of flowers. The day I picked
was also kind of windy which makes this image stacking even
harder. That said, I was pretty happy with the results.

Bike the Night
We
did a bike the night back in 2019, just before COVID hit. The
bike the night even has been canceled for years since and has just
come back in a new format. The previous Bike the Night was had
the families ride first and then the adults rode behind them with
the whole ride starting around 8pm. This year there was two
whole rides - one for kids starting around 6:45 and an adult ride
starting at 8pm. Second format change - the 2019 ride was on
the roads and the police closed off all of the roads. This
year, the ride was all on the seawall.
