December 2023
The
Holiday Season
Christmas this year fell on a Monday so Helen and the kids didn't
have time off the week before. We arrived in Victoria on
Saturday and Sunday night we decided to visit the city lights near
city hall. This isn't our first time visiting - we
visited back in 2019 but the lights
had an electrical problem and none of them were showing.
This year the lights were on, there was live music and there were
lots of people here taking photos of loved ones.
Like last time, we took a walk over to Chinatown to see Fan Tan
alley.
I have mixed emotions about photographing
the actual opening of gifts. I try to take photos of the
happy feelings rather than gift part itself.
We have a tradition of taking a walk after lunch.
Piper Spit
Last year
we visited Piper Spit in Nanaimo when
we had a bit of time before the ferry so we got a 30 minutes to
see the start of the park. This trip I set aside more time
so we could actually walk around the park. The Park is
oceanfront (but amazingly had parking) and has a walk out to a
viewpoint.
Boxing Day in Courtney
Reifel Bird Sanctuary
This year New Years even fell on a Sunday
and Sunday mornings at Reifel Bird Sanctuary there is a guided
bird walk. The kids had stuff to do so I got the morning to
go for a walk. The hope was to see owls or perhaps another
predator and sometimes the tours have more luck because there are
so many eyes all looking at the same time.
