It was a regular Sunday morning - other than the 4 inches of fresh snow!  Vancouver rarely gets snow and when it does, it doesn't stay very long.  After a nice breakfast at Sagano's, I went for a walk with David to see the snow.

Our first stop was David's house.  David's house has an amazing view and a deck with a great view.  A few snaps of a snow covered deck:

From David's house, we walked onto the Granville Street Bridge and back.  The snow was already melting (it was gone two days later) but it was nice to see Vancouver a little more white.

2008:

Snow in Vancouver isn't common so when we got a run of cold weather followed by a snow storm, it was a change from the usual.

Helen and I had some time and driving to errands was out of the question (not that we do that much anyways) so we decided to do an extended walk to Granville Island to take in the sights.  Vancouver isn't exactly the city of snowplows so road conditions were pretty bad.  Sidewalks were also terrible so the walk took longer than it normally would.

The seawall had a number of surprises.  I've never seen anyone cross country ski around the sea wall, but we saw two skiiers pass by (in oposite directions).  The water was starting to freeze and tiny slush iceburgs formed a skin on the ocean.  The ducks that normally hang out in the area had a coating of snow on their backs and left trail behind them as they pushed through the ice.  Tough day to be a duck.s

The final blow was Alder Bay frozen.  This is salt water - pacific ocean - that seperates Granville Island from the rest of the sea wall.  I was quite surprised to see it locked in ice and snow building up on the surface.   It had obviously been cold recently.

What beautiful pictures! I spent Christmas in the snow in Vancouver 10 years ago (I live in Australia) and was delighted to see that you had another white christmas this year. Looks like the cold has been hanging around for a while this year!

We spent this summer in BC with family and having heard about the snow, wanted to take a look at the city in a different light. Lovely shots. We had equally extraordinary snow in London and in Northern Ireland where I live, at almost exactly the same time. It was a lovely respite from "normal" life.
