Mule Dear
Those big ears could hear me from at least as far as I could see them. They aren't as tame as the deer on Pender Island (you can almost pet those).

Red Sea Cucumber
Red Sea Cucumber, Cucumaria miniata to it's friends. These things are quite mobile - the bright red arms filter out food bits and then pull them inside to be consumed.

Great Blue Heron
These were pretty good hunters - they were pulling fish out with every strike and I didn't even see fish.

I suspect these squirrel's a pretty used to tourists - this one didn't mind when I got close with my camera.

Red Rock Crab
Cancer productus to it's friends. This one was in a very muddy bay among the rocks.

Northern Kelp Crab In Hand
This little guy moved around pretty fast, but liked the top of Mike's backpack. We found others when paddling - they were generally hanging on kelp. Pugettia producta.

California Sea Cucumber
Parastichopus californicus, or sometimes Giant red sea cucumber. This species is the largest that grows in our waters.

Grizzly Bear Rubbing Tree

It was dark (past sunset), I was on a moving boat and I had slow speed film in the camera.  I beleive these
are 1/8th of a second shots (on tripod).

Bowl of Humpback Shrimp

We pulled up the prawn traps and these were inside.  These are mostly
Humpback Shrimp (Pandalus Hypsinotus), but we did get a few Prawns (Pandalus Platyceros)
