Cabbage White Feeding On Flower
I'm still learning to take photos of butterflies - I always figured these white things were moths but I was wrong. These two were very active (chasing each other it seemed) and were very particular about which flowers they fed on.

Cabbage White Flying In
I like that you can see the rolled up proboscis on the upper butterfly.

Satyr Comma Ventral
It's funny that when folded up, the wings are quite camouflaged.

Paddle Tailed Darner Face
This particular insect liked to hover at the same spot for a long period of time so it was easy for me to take photos of it.

Paddle Tailed Darner In Flight
I didn't know at the time - you use the stripes on the body to tell the different kinds of Darners apart.

This little guy seemed to be eating something in the sand.

Centipede
I liked this little guy - we don't have cenitpedes this size where I live and it moves in such a great way. I believe this was shot at f2.8, 1/20th of a second (on a tripod) so the depth of field isn't what I would have liked. I have to say, iNaturalist is amazing. Given a photo, it gets pretty close.

Nara Placing House Fly Larvae
This took my aback when I saw it. This the forensics lab at SFU - through brough house fly larvae and you can put the larva in water soluble paint and then put them on a small card to make art. The kids pick up the larvae again and again, dipping them in different paint colours.
Because the kids don't have experience with larva, they think it's fine to use them for art.

Russet Percher
This was probably the easiest species to photograph - long perching times and quite striking colours compared to the background.

Red Helen
I was happy to see a new to me kind of large butterfly. The day was a bit cooler than last year so not as many insects were out.

Cabbage Whites Mating On Seed Head
Not moths - their antenna aren't feathery. This is a male and female mating. Cabbage White's are an invasive (and very plentiful) species.
