Sun Through Feet
I like the sun lighting through the skin on the feet and the tail feathers. The bands on the leg are quite clearly visible.
Species: Diomedea sanfordi (Northern Royal Albatross)

Albatross Descending
I like the big bands on it's foot - those are there to recognize an individual without having to capture him/her.
Species: Diomedea sanfordi (Northern Royal Albatross)

Pigeon Guillemot In Flight
I really like the penguin dress code. There were a number flying around Race Rocks, some standing on shore.

Peregrine Falcon
Shooting against a bright background doesn't help. This bird never really got close and of course it was moving fast.
Species: Falco peregrinus (Peregrine Falcon)

Turkey Vulture Circling Mount Doug
The vultures didn't come that close to Mount Doug.
Species: Cathartes aura (Turkey Vulture)

The white and black contrast on the underside of the wings is quite striking.

Bald Eagle Flying With Bird Remains
I figure he is carrying part of a bird because of the feathers.
Species: Haliaeetus leucocephalus (Bald Eagle)

Osprey Returning With Fish
It was an overcast morning - you can just see the mountains sticking up through the low cloud bank.
Species: Pandion haliaetus (Osprey)

Caspian Tern Skimming Water
Apparently they also sometimes catch fish at the surface by skimming.
Species: Hydroprogne caspia (Caspian tern)

Caspian Tern Looking For Fish
These birds have a pretty dramatic dive after they see a fish.

Cormorant Flying By
There are hundreds and hundreds of these birds at Mai Po at this time of the year.
Species: Phalacrocorax carbo (Great Cormorant)

Black Eared Kite Turning
I really wasn't expecting to take photos of this bird - that is why the exposure is so off. I was walking in the area (actually taking photos of butterflies) and the bird flew - much further away than a bird in Vancouver does. I shot with what was set. Shooting a dark bird against an overcast sky is always a poor idea.
Species: Milvus migrans lineatus (black-eared kite)
