Bamboo Shoots
I once saw these growing out of the ground in a park in Chinatown. I wondered how long they would survive. John Harvey Photo > Trips out of the Country > Hong Kong 5 > Bamboo Shoots

Bamboo Fortune Sticks
You slowly shake the container until one stick falls out by it's self. You need someone to interpret the character to tell you what it means. John Harvey Photo > Trips out of the Country > Hong Kong Chinese New Years > Bamboo Fortune Sticks

Two Birds Looking Aside
This colony is cool because the birds are stand on top of bamboo trees, not on a remote rock like many Canadian colonies. The lack of plumes (long feathers) and the season says this is the non-breeding plumage. The dark feet say juvenile to me. Species: Egretta garzetta (Little Egret)

Stand Of Bamboo
We were definitely in Bamboo climate - tall stands grew where trees weren't. Some of the poles had been cut down and used in local projects. John Harvey Photo > Trips out of the Country > A Second Trip to Japan > Amanohashadate > Stand Of Bamboo
