Glaucous Winged Gull Flipping Red Rock Crab
The gull dispatched the crab pretty promptly. He flipped the crab onto it's back and then ripped off the legs. One he had leg holes, he ripped open the shell and ate the body of the crab. John Harvey Photo > Blogs for 2021 to 2005 > April 2015 > Glaucous Winged Gull Flipping Red Rock Crab

Nara With Clarks Nutcracker
I find it funny that the only place I have seen this species is this parking lot. These birds are smart - they know what hand outs look like. Thought this was the the first photo that has all three icons - a tagged person, a species identified (not in a zoo) and a location. Turns out this is the sixth time it has happened and it's even the second time I put a comment to that effect. Tags: bird

Crow In Tree
This was a surprise for me - Around Vancouver we generally get Northwestern Crows, but this is an American crow (slightly larger). The way I can tell them apart is by the hair on their nose. Species: Corvus brachyrhynchos (American Crow)

Blue Grouse
As I was coming off the mountain, I spotted this bird at this side of the road. (This is actually the third grouse I've spotted this year driving out of a hike). The light was toast (this was shot at 1/10th of second at 200mm) and it was raining, but I couldn't resist trying to get a shot. Fast foward to 2015 - this is now called a Sooty Grouse instead of a blue grouse. The wide light grey band on the tail seems to be indicative. Tags: bird
