Japan, 4th Visit January 27th -> February 13th, 2009 Japan in the winter! We wanted to see hot spring baths and traditional inn's with the benifit of snow! We drove across the Japanese Alps and visited some classic Japanese destinations. |
Hong Kong, 3rd Visit November 5th -> November 20th, 2008 Hong Kong has so many details to see. This trip include a side trip to Macau, hiking on Hong Kong Island, a trip to Cheung Chau Island and more time in markets! |
Costa Rica June 26th -> July 7th, 2008 Helen and I were just recently married and we figured a trip to some place warm was in order. We had choices (Hawaii, the Caribbean) but we decided on Costa Rica on the strength of recommendations from friends. We weren't disappointed. |
Seaside, Oregon May 16th -> May 19th, 2008 We like a nice trip on the May Long weekend. This year we decided to go South of the border and explored a very nice bit of Oregon state. We saw sea lions, bird colonies, sand dunes and some fantastic beaches. |
Vietnam November 6th -> November 21st, 2007 Helen and I spent a little over two weeks visiting the North and South ends of Vietnam. We traveled in the mountains, on the rivers, across rice paddies and out onto the Ocean. We visited a lot of markets. |
Camping at
Okanagan North August 31st -> September 2nd, 2007 One of BC best campsites provides a home base for a great wine tour. We also visited the local farmers market, make some smores and went for a few (brief) walks. |
India December 1st -> 23rd, 2006 My grandfather served in India in World War II so stories and artifacts from India spiced up my childhood. I had time off with my Sabbatical so I decided to go. I visited Delhi, two national parks, the Thar desert and a number of smaller cities. |
New Zealand November 14th -> 30th, 2006 Sean and Catherine were getting married outside of Auckland and if you are going to fly that far to see a wedding, you should probably stick around and see more of the place. Saw some of the North and South Island. |
Hong Kong November 1st -> 13th, 2006 Helen has family in Hong Kong and as part of my sabbatical this year, we went to visit her family for two weeks. Hong Kong is a small area but there was lots of sights to see. |

Provincal Park June 29th -> July 2nd, 2005 I've started a new tradition of trying to stand on top of mountains for Canada Day. This year I drove to Cathedral Provincial park in the South Okanagan for hiking, but also explored the desert in the Osoyoos area. |

A Third Trip to Japan May 29th, 2004 Eric and Gabi's multi year stay in Japan was drawing to a close and soon our local guides would be coming home. Having just finished a project at work, it was a perfect time for a trip back to Japan! We spent two weeks on a road trip in the sourthern most islands of Japan - Kyushu and Shikoku. |
Banff for a Few

Aristazabal
Island October 5th, 2003 I have done several trips with Due West Charters - two in the Gulf Islands [1,2], and one other on the Mid Coast of British Columbia. This year Jan was offering a new trip to the area surrounding Aristazabal Island - a region North of Bella Bella. This was a trip into one of the least populated places on the coast of BC and unspoiled wilderness. |

Japan January 12th, 2003 Eric was teaching in Japan and it was past due to go over and visit. We also visited a few of the great destinations in Japan (Kyoto, Nikko, Tokyo) and explored a few places off the tourist path (hot spring towns, fire festival and Amanohashadate). |
Fireworks in
Vancouver August 12th, 2002 Vancouver has many fireworks shows. I keep a page of fireworks shots from a number of locations in Vancouver and I added two more locations from this years celebration of light. I was particularly happy with the pictures from the Burrard Street Bridge and Canada shows. |
Big
Island of Hawaii June 20th, 2002 We had planned this 8 day trip to coinside with the finishing of SledStorm 2. None of us had been to the Big Island and there were certainly lots of new things to do besides the usual sitting on the beach and snorkeling. Highlights include the Telescopes on top of Mauna Kea and Snorkeling. |
My Grandmothers
80th Birthday May 20th, 2002 My grandmother's birthday is actually in two weeks - she'll be 80 - but she is flying to Scotland before then so we figured this weekend (the start of spring break) would be a good time to get together and celebrate. |
